fostering broad based community support for competitive
aquatic activity on the South Coast of Oregon.

The South Coast Aquatic Team, or SCAT, is a nonprofit swim team based in the North Bend-Coos Bay area serving the competitive needs of the children in our surrounding communities. South Coast Aquatic Team provides professionally recognized coaching for swimmers from 5 years of age through high school.

What Is the South Coast Aquatic Team?

We have swimmers from North Bend, Coos Bay, Coquille and Reedsport area on the team. SCAT offers both parents and children an option of building lifelong skills the encourages physical fitness as well as a healthy lifestyle. Not only do swimmers learn proper swimming techniques, but the coaches and parents involved with SCAT are committed to the encouragement and development of positive self-esteem, dedication, self-motivation, goal setting, accountability, and team work. Our swimmers and their families enjoy hosting and attending swim meets throughout the year.

Head Coach Chris Richmond brings 33 years of coaching experience to SCAT. He is a Level 4 certified member of the American Swim Coaches Association.
Beginning in 1972, he has taught and coached swimmers of all ages and abilities. His 1981 and '82 summer club teams in Colorado won the State Championships.
Moving to Oregon in 1987, he coached the Reedsport Aqua Braves from 1987-1994. Beginning in 1994, he took over the North Bend Aquatic Club and was instrumental in organizing the South Coast Aquatic Team in 1996.
He has produced numerous state, sectional and zone champions, as well as Jr. National, National, and Olympic trial Qualifiers. His success is due to excellent teaching abilities and organizational skills.
